Buffalo News: Five Buffalo Niagara groups awarded state environmental grants

The following Buffalo Niagara environmental organizations have been awarded funding from more than $1 million in environmental justice grants announced by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo:

Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper – $49,535 for a training and mentoring program on environmental science for high school students from low-income neighborhoods.

Groundwork Buffalo – $25,073 for educational efforts and to convert a Hamlin Park lot into a rain garden.

Schiller Park Community Services – $10,000 to support the conversion of a lot into neighborhood green space.

Niagara Arts and Cultural Center, Niagara Falls – $10,000 for educational efforts and soil testing of lots to determine if they can be converted into community gardens.

Seneca Street Community Development Corp. – $8,536 to conduct soil testing and community education in support of community gardens and urban agriculture.
