John Ottaviano accepts 2015 Groundbreaking Award for Lockport Ice Rink & Sports Arena

What was once an empty grocery store and eyesore is now a state of the art ice arena and sports training facility. What was once a dangerous hangout for children is now a place where children can build character and to learn good sportsmanship. It took 10 years of planning and dedicated community volunteers to make the Lockport Ice Arena and Sports Center a reality.

Now named the Cornerstone CFCU Arena, this 93,500 square foot facility offers the region a high quality hockey, skating, and training experience. It has two NHL-size rinks, seating for approximately 630 and a community room. It operates by the mission of the nonprofit that founded it with programs that also combat juvenile delinquency, promote social welfare, physical fitness and more.

The arena is expected to attract over 150,000 individuals and create a demand for over 4,500 hotel rooms annually, leading to new businesses and new jobs. It will also be a venue for job training as the concessions area will be run by the YWCA Catering Crew, a social enterprise dedicated to helping women become economically self-sufficient.

The Niagara USA Chamber recognizes the dedication it took for the Lockport Ice Rink and Sports Arena with the 2015 Groundbreaking Award.

Trek, Inc. is truly a power player. They are experts in electrostatic and high-voltage power amplification. Founded in 1968, Trek has focused on developing technology and designing products that help industry and research to be successful. Some of their business relationships go back 20 years or more, proving industry excellence.

The next time you make a photocopy or use a cellphone, think of Trek. Trek’s first products were specially designed electrostatic voltmeters that helped manufacturers of high-end photocopiers meet customers’ demands. Trek also developed and commercialized technically sophisticated high-voltage power amplifiers that became the preferred solution to manage precise processing methods in semiconductor manufacturing. Semiconductors end up in products such as laptops, cell phones, tablets and other electronic and mobile devices. Trek also provides high performance products and solutions to the global R&D community.

As a result of Trek’s worldwide success, the company moved its headquarters and manufacturing operations to the refurbished Harrison site in Lockport in late 2013 with the support and assistance of the City of Lockport, Niagara County and New York State. Trek’s employment has increased from 93 before the relocation to 120.

Molly Anderson accepts Father Joseph L. Levesque Award for Community Advocacy

Molly Anderson is a force for leadership development in our binational region. As executive director of Leadership Niagara, she transformed the 30 year old organization into the premier leadership development program in Western New York. It is a nationally award winning model for innovation and excellence, and one of the many reasons she is the 2015 recipient of the Father Joseph L. Levesque Award for Community Advocacy.

Molly’s passion for leadership began early in her career as program director of the American Management Association’s Operation Enterprise program. It was there she learned management and leadership principles from a worldwide faculty of CEOs which instilled in her the virtues of lifelong learning and best practices. For more than 25 years, Molly has served her community locally, nationally, and globally. She has supported numerous nonprofits as a board member including: Junior Achievement, Mount St. Joseph Academy, Buffalo Financial Plan Commission II, Buffalo Junior Chamber of Commerce, Hauptman Woodward Institute, and Shea’s Performing Arts Rising Stars. She was a charter member of the Buffalo Sunrise Rotary Club and charter member for the first charter school to open in Buffalo, King Center Charter School.

Molly was recently awarded the Michael Brundidge Community Service Award by the Main Street Business & Professional Association in Niagara Falls and the Association of Leadership Professionals “Excellence in Innovation” award. She was honored by Business First and Buffalo Public Schools with the “Pathfinder Award” for blazing a trail between business and education.

Niagara USA Chamber is now celebrating her accomplishments and others for excellence in business.

Chamber Honors 2015: Aquarium of Niagara with Special Recognition Award

Aquarium of Niagara Executive Director Gay Molnar accepts special recognition for aquarium's 50th anniversary.

Aquarium of Niagara Executive Director Gay Molnar accepts special recognition for aquarium’s 50th anniversary.

2015 marks a milestone for the Aquarium of Niagara, and the Niagara Chamber USA is not letting that go unnoticed.

50 years ago, a small group of scientists founded the aquarium to demonstrate artificial seawater. Hailed as an Inland Ocenarium, this institution was the first ever to maintain sea life exclusively using synthetic seawater. Trade named Instant Ocean, this sophisticated culture medium was developed by William E. Kelley and Richard Segedi which is still mixed on-site and used today.

The Aquarium of Niagara is now operated by the Niagara Aquarium Foundation. Its mission centers on raising awareness of aquatic ecosystems while promoting conservation and supporting research. Many of us have had a chance to experience the mission at work. It’s in the wonder in the eyes of a child at seeing a penguin, shark or starfish. Science truly comes to life.

Now the Aquarium is starting one of the most important remodeling campaigns in its history “Join our Journey”. This is an unprecedented opportunity to enhance, beautify, and build on the amazing exhibits that have earned the aquarium the nickname of Niagara’s “Other Water World”. This phase focuses on the first floor of the facility highlighting a new interactive Humboldt Penguin Exhibit, a new Education/Animal Encounter Classroom and refurbished aquatic exhibits.

Niagara USA celebrates the Aquarium of Niagara’s legacy and dedication to educating and entertaining families all over the world.
Honorees also include:

TREK – Industry Insider Award
Molly Anderson – Father Joseph L. Levesque Award for Community Advocacy
