As part of the Federal plan, New York State has committed to establishing a health insurance exchange by 2014. There are many unanswered questions in regard to this program, not the least of which include costs, state mandates, and impact on business owners. As a leading business advocacy organization the Chamber, along with other business organizations across the state, feels that collectively, with an established network of over 110,000 businesses representing over 3.6 million employees, these groups have vast experience in providing insurance education to business and therefore deserve to have a voice in the matter.
Support the creation of a commission or board (like the Health Care Quality and Cost Containment Commission, a group that has remained in the conceptual stage in NYS for more than four years), which would be responsible for reviewing mandates and ensuring that any legislation passed is both cost effective and in the best medical interest of consumers.
Work with Chamber Alliance of New York State members to protect business owners during this process.
