WHITE PLAINS—When the New York Power Authority (NYPA) Trustees convene on Tuesday (July 29), it will mark the first board meeting of NYPA’s newest trustee, Anne M. Kress, who was confirmed by the New York State Senate last month, following her nomination by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo to the NYPA governing board.

Dr. Kress has served as president of Monroe Community College (MCC) in Rochester since 2009.  Under her leadership, MCC established the Division of Economic Development and Innovative Workforce Services, which is responsible for developing entrepreneurial and strategic initiatives designed to proactively respond to economic development and training needs.

Dr. Kress, a Rochester resident, currently serves on the Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council, one of 10 such entities established by the Governor to develop regional economic development plans across the state for spurring jobs and capital investments.  She is also a board member of the Rochester Business Alliance and the Greater Rochester Enterprise.

A native of Milwaukee, WI, Dr. Kress completed her undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Florida, earning her doctoral degree in higher education administration.  She has a career of more than two decades in higher education.

“I’m looking forward to working closely with Anne, whose background in economic development closely matches one of our core functions at the Power Authority,” said John R. Koelmel, NYPA chairman. “Anne’s leadership and experiences will undoubtedly contribute to our role in maximizing the utilization of clean, low-cost electricity to spur capital investments and jobs throughout the state. Further, her expertise in workforce development is closely aligned with NYPA’s focus on succession planning for ensuring a highly-skill, motivated and diverse work force at its administrative offices and facilities.”

“Anne Kress brings significant expertise in economic and workforce development to the Power Authority,” said Gil C. Quiniones, NYPA president and chief executive officer. “Anne’s diverse career experiences and skills are sure to have a positive impact on our organization.”

“I’m honored to have been named by Governor Cuomo to the NYPA board,” said Dr. Kress. “The Power Authority is an organization of singular distinction, contributing greatly to New York State’s electric power system, economy and environment.  I’m looking forward to furthering the vital work that NYPA is conducting on behalf of the people of New York State.”

The NYPA Board of Trustees oversees the executive management of the Power Authority, which provides up to one-quarter of the state’s electricity from its 16 clean generating facilities and economical power purchases.  Its more than 1,400 circuit-miles of transmission lines account for one-third of the state’s high-voltage lines. NYPA is also the lead organization in administering the Governor’s Build Smart NY program for improving the energy efficiency of state facilities by 20 percent by 2020.
