Skelos, Klein, Silver Announce Joint Legislative Budget Schedule

Senate Majority Coalition Co-Leaders Dean G. Skelos and Jeff Klein and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver today announced an agreement on a joint legislative budget schedule that sets deadlines that lead to the earliest adoption of a state budget in two decades.

“This schedule sets out a plan to adopt a new budget on March 21st, the earliest budget since 1983, and 10 days prior to the April 1st deadline,” Senator Skelos said.  “Public budget hearings are well underway, the review of the proposed Executive Budget has begun, and the Senate Majority Coalition is ready to work together with the Assembly and Governor to enact a fiscally responsible state budget.” (more…)

Niagara USA Chamber Elects New Officers and Members to Board of Directors

Sanborn, N.Y., January 31, 2013– At the January Board meeting of the Niagara USA Chamber, elections were held to fill open positions. Christian Boron from M&T Bank was elected the as chairman, a position previously held by Kevin Schuler from LP Ciminelli.

Shared Services Committee Takes Shape — Syracuse Announces Members of Consolidation Panel

LOCKPORT—The government/private sector commission charged with cutting back redundancies in government will begin work soon, now that the panel’s membership has been finalized, Niagara County Legislature leaders announced today.

 Legislator John Syracuse, R-Newfane, who chairs the newly-created ad hoc Committee on Governmental Shared Services and Consolidation, released a list of committee membership this morning after conferring with Legislature Chairman William L. Ross, C-Wheatfield, and Public Works Committee Chairman Paul B. Wojtaszek, R-North Tonawanda. (more…)

N.Y. Power Authority Power Vista Commemorates 150th Anniversary of Emancipation Proclamation in Black History Month Exhibit

LEWISTON—The New York Power Authority (NYPA) will display historic photos and projects focusing on the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation during Black History Month in February at its admission-free visitors center, the Power Vista, located on the grounds of NYPA’s Niagara Power Project at 5777 Lewiston Road, Lewiston, N.Y.

The Black History Month exhibit kicks off Feb. 2, in the lower level of the Power Vista.  It will feature various reproductions of historic photos about the Emancipation Proclamation from the Library of Congress.  There will also be the unveiling of projects submitted by students from local schools including the Lewiston-Porter Primary Education Center and Niagara Falls High School.
