  • July 24, 2012
  • Chamber News

The sun was shining over Tan Tara and birds were chirping, as the field of golfers hit the green for the Niagara USA Chamber’s Annual Golf Classic on Monday, July 23, 2012.

Registration kicked off at 10:00am with pastries, coffee and juice on the patio of the clubhouse and time for the golfers to warm-up on the putting green. Golfers took to their carts at 11:00am for their Shotgun round of golf.

After the tournament, scorecards were collected, dinner was served and the winners were announced! Congratulations to Geoffrey Reeds of Sheraton at the Falls for his hole in one, Niagara Falls Coach Lines team for lowest score, Kathy Williams and Peter Mio for longest drive, Raeanne Argy Tyler and Paul Molley for closest to the pin.

A very special thank to our event title sponsor, Niacet Corporation, for their past and present generosity, which make this event possible. Also, we would like to thank all of our participants and generous sponsors for their continued support.

Ceretto: Pending NYPA Board Vacancy is an Opportunity for Niagara County

  • Legislative News

Assemblyman John D. Ceretto (R,I-Lewiston) today wrote to Gov. Andrew Cuomo urging him to nominate a Niagara County resident to succeed John Dyson on the New York Power Authority (NYPA) Board of Trustees, citing the critical role Niagara County plays in power production in New York State. Mr. Dyson’s resignation is slated for August 5th of this year.

“Niagara County needs representation on the Power Authority Board of Trustees,” said Ceretto. “We do not benefit enough from hosting the Niagara Power Project. In the past year alone, we have seen a rate increase of $480 million on our ‘preferred power customers’ – this after NYPA had $544 million to give to the state general fund. We have seen our skilled local workers on the sidelines, while out-of-state workers are hired for public projects. Now more than ever, Niagara County needs a vote on the New York Power Authority Board of Trustees.” (more…)

“Energy Highway” Plan Moves Forward

  • Legislative News

Last week, Gov. Cuomo announced that 85 private developers, investor-owned utilities, financial firms and other entities have responded to the New York Energy Highway Task Force’s Request for Information (RFI), submitting 130 proposals to upgrade the state’s energy infrastructure.

The Energy Highway Task Force issued the RFI in April, seeking proposals in support of an energy highway.  The Governor outlined his vision for the Energy Highway in his 2012 State of the State Address, calling for “a private-sector funded $2 billion “Energy Highway” system that will tap into the generation capacity and renewable energy potential in Upstate and Western NY to bring low-cost power to meet the tremendous energy needs in Downstate New York” and for the repowering of old and dirty plants to stop pollution in urban neighborhoods.
